Since it's Saturday, I was planning to do some checkings which you can only do during quiet times, i.e. when you have no screaming customers worried because their websites aren't working, for whatever reasons including them being brick-heads Cool.

I was checking a new server which recently came into production (for your own records, its name is Almania) so we're still filling it with websites and found out that we basically have a 11% ratio (active / configured). On that server we are using a very aggressive shutdown policy which basically means your website will be shutted down and removed from memory after 5 mins when idle, that is to say your website will be shutted down 5 minutes after last connection has been served. Of course, website will be restored when it will receive a new connection.

As a comparison, I wanted to check another server which has been in production for almost 2 years now (Bal'demnic) to check if ratio was close or not. This server has way more websites configured on it since it's been in production way longer that Almania and it uses a somewhat relaxed recycle policy which is set to 10 mins. I was somewhat surprised to find out that Bal'demnic ratio (active / configured) was almost 16% which is very close to previous measure. Interesting indeed.
